Lagos senator commends Zone 2 Police, pledges support for improved security

The Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, Distinguished Senator Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun, has commended the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in maintaining peace and security in Lagos and Ogun states, while pledging continued legislative support to strengthen policing in the zone.
The senator gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, at the Zonal Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, on Monday.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 2 Command, DSP Afolayan Gbenga, the visit was aimed at strengthening existing ties between the National Assembly and the police, as well as fostering strategic collaboration to improve public safety and security across the zone.
Eshilokun, who was accompanied by members of his entourage, appreciated the warm reception accorded him and praised the leadership of Zone 2 for its professionalism, dedication and sacrifices in protecting lives and property across Lagos and Ogun states.
The senator acknowledged the resilience of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining law and order despite prevailing security challenges.
He urged the officers to remain steadfast in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities, assuring them of his confidence and continued support.
According to him, the efforts of the police have contributed significantly to the relative peace being enjoyed across Lagos and its environs.
Responding, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, expressed appreciation to the senator for the visit, describing it as a strong vote of confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and a morale booster for officers making daily sacrifices to safeguard lives and property.
Jimoh reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to strengthening community-oriented policing, enhancing operational efficiency and sustaining peace across Lagos and Ogun states.
He also assured the senator and residents of the zone that the command would continue to collaborate with government institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders to combat crime and ensure a safer environment.
The statement added that Zone 2 Headquarters remains committed to deepening strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders to promote effective policing, maintain law and order, and enhance sustainable peace and security across Lagos and Ogun states.
