Leaked Documents Exonerate AIG Jimoh in VGC Land Dispute, Police Sources Dismiss Mohbad Claims

Fresh documents have contradicted allegations linking Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Moshood Jimoh to a disputed property in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos, indicating that police personnel deployed to the site were carrying out a lawful security assignment following petitions submitted by the property’s developers.
The documents, obtained at the weekend, also undermine claims by social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), that Jimoh orchestrated criminal charges against businessman Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi to seize the property.
According to the documents, the developers had petitioned both the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, requesting police protection over alleged threats to their lives and repeated disruptions at the project site.
The petitions, dated December 5, 2025, and January 20, 2026, were submitted through the developers’ solicitors and claimed the company possessed a valid Contract of Sale and Lagos State Government Consent confirming ownership of the land following a 2022 settlement with the original owners.
The petitioners alleged that Akanbi, who introduced himself as a land consultant in 2019, fraudulently acquired more than 40 plots of land located along Orchid Road, Alpha Beach Road and Agungi through false representations between 2019 and 2020.
They further claimed that after receiving ₦1.5 billion in settlement payments, Akanbi allegedly mobilised armed thugs who invaded the site, assaulted workers and disrupted ongoing construction activities.
Attached photographs reportedly showed inscriptions painted on the perimeter fence warning prospective buyers against purchasing the land and claiming ownership on behalf of the Ojomu Royal Family.
Based on these developments, the petitioners requested police protection while removing the inscriptions and asked authorities to restrain Akanbi and his associates from further interference with the property.
Police sources said officers deployed to the location acted strictly in response to those petitions and not to advance any private interest on the part of Jimoh.
The controversy followed the circulation of an audio recording released by VeryDarkMan, in which speakers allegedly discussed the deployment of policemen to the disputed land and suggested that Jimoh had personal interests in the property.
However, sources familiar with the investigation insisted the documents clearly showed the deployment was based on formal complaints lodged by the landowners.
They also rejected allegations that Jimoh benefited financially or acquired any interest in the disputed land.
”The petitioners have consistently maintained that they did not know Jimoh before submitting their petitions. He neither demanded nor received money or land from them. The officers were deployed solely to maintain law and order and prevent further violence at the site,” a source said.
The source described the allegations against the senior police officer as an attempt to blackmail him and obstruct ongoing criminal investigations.
Jimoh had earlier denied allegations of corruption, maintaining that he neither received money nor property from any party connected with the dispute.
He challenged anyone with credible evidence against him to present it before a court or make it available to the defence team in the ongoing murder trial involving Akanbi.
The AIG also maintained that police investigators had gathered sufficient evidence to prosecute the suspects in the murder cases.
The police sources further dismissed attempts to link Jimoh with the investigation into the death of singer MohBad, describing such claims as false and misleading.
According to the sources, the investigation into Mohbad’s death commenced in 2023, long before Jimoh assumed office as Commissioner of Police in Lagos on February 18, 2025.
They noted that by the time Jimoh took over the command, the matter had already progressed through the coroner’s inquest and had been transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja.
The sources added that although Jimoh received groups demanding justice after assuming office, he merely assured them that the police remained committed to due process and explained that the matter was already before the courts.
They insisted that the senior officer neither investigated the case nor played any role in decisions taken before his deployment to Lagos, urging the public to disregard attempts to associate him with the matter.
