Local Government Chairman, Hon. Akposi Makes it to The Great Wall of China

The Chairman of Akamkpa Local Government Council, Cross River State, Hon. Amb. (Ophot) Felix Akposi, KSJI, has made it to the iconic Great Wall of China while participating in an international training programme focused on modern agricultural technologies.
Akposi, who is representing Akamkpa Local Government Council at the Training Course on New Technologies for Storage, Preservation and Circulation of Fruits and Vegetables under the Global Development Initiative, described the opportunity as both an honour and a platform for acquiring knowledge that could benefit his people.
The Council Chairman’s visit to the Great Wall forms part of his engagement in China, where he is participating alongside other delegates in the capacity-building programme aimed at improving food security, reducing post-harvest losses and strengthening agricultural value chains.
Speaking at the training programme, Akposi expressed appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for what he described as its commitment to international cooperation, capacity building and knowledge exchange.
“It is a profound honour and privilege to represent Akamkpa Local Government Council, Cross River State, Nigeria, at this prestigious training programme under the Global Development Initiative,” he said.
Akposi said the training was particularly significant given the challenges confronting agricultural production and food security in developing countries.
“This training comes at a critical time as our countries strive to strengthen food security, reduce post-harvest losses and promote sustainable agricultural development,” he stated.
He expressed confidence that the practical knowledge gained during the programme would translate into tangible benefits for farmers and communities in Akamkpa and beyond.
“I am confident that the knowledge and practical experience we gain here will contribute meaningfully to improving agricultural value chains, creating economic opportunities and enhancing the well-being of our people,” Akposi said.
The local government chairman also said his participation was not limited to learning from Chinese experts, stressing the importance of exchanging ideas and building relationships with participants from Africa and other parts of the world.
“I look forward not only to learning from the distinguished experts assembled here but also to exchanging ideas with fellow participants from across Africa and other regions of the world, fostering partnerships that will endure long after this programme,” he said.
The training is focused on technologies for the storage, preservation and circulation of fruits and vegetables, areas considered critical to reducing waste, improving farmers’ earnings and ensuring a more efficient agricultural value chain.
For Akposi, the experience in China offers an opportunity to gain insights that could be adapted to local agricultural realities and contribute to economic development at the grassroots.
He further thanked the Chinese government and the organisers for the opportunity, describing the programme as a valuable avenue for strengthening cooperation between China and developing countries.
“Once again, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the organisers for this remarkable opportunity,” he said.
Akposi’s appearance at the Great Wall of China has also added a symbolic dimension to his participation in the international programme, highlighting the broader cultural and diplomatic engagement accompanying the technical training.
The Great Wall, one of China’s most recognisable landmarks, provided a notable backdrop to the Cross River council chairman’s international engagement as he continues his participation in the programme.
