The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has intensified recovery operations at the site of the crashed ATR 42-500 aircraft, NAF 931, in Igbokoda, Ondo State, following a significant reduction in water levels as the operation entered its 14th day on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The Service said continuous pumping had substantially reduced the volume of water at the crash site, with recovery personnel working to remove most of the remaining water, subject to prevailing conditions.
It added that efforts were also ongoing to reinforce the embankment with sandbags to prevent collapse and maintain stability as dewatering operations continued.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the recovery mission requires sustained engineering and dewatering operations under challenging conditions, highlighting the scale and complexity of the exercise.
The NAF commended the dedication and professionalism of recovery personnel and partner agencies, particularly acknowledging Hitech Construction Company for its invaluable support to the ongoing operation.

The statement said the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, had commended the recovery team for its resilience and professionalism, while reaffirming the Service’s commitment to completing the operation safely and methodically.
According to the NAF, the recovery efforts are being sustained alongside the ongoing aircraft accident investigation.
The Service also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families, acknowledging the pain and anguish caused by the tragedy.

“The NAF remains deeply conscious of the pain and anguish of the bereaved families and extends its heartfelt condolences to them,” the statement said.
The Air Force assured the families and the public that recovery operations would continue, with timely and verified updates provided as developments unfold.

It also appreciated the patience and cooperation of the Igbokoda community, alongside the continued support of all stakeholders involved in the recovery mission.
