The Nigerian Navy has destroyed an illegal refining site and three large storage tanks discovered at Promise Land Community along Nanabie Creek in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Navy said the illegal refining site was dismantled by the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bonny as part of ongoing operations to disrupt crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the area.
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the site was discovered on September 30 following credible intelligence.
According to Folorunsho, the site contained one large cooking pot and three large storage tanks suspected to have been installed for illegal refining activities.
He said the Commanding Officer, FOB Bonny, Captain SMC Umeh, led a team to the location on October 2, where the illegal refining site and associated equipment were destroyed in accordance with established regulations.

Folorunsho said the operation further disrupted illegal refining capacity in the Bonny area by removing infrastructure that could be used by criminal operators to process and store stolen crude oil.
He added that the latest operation followed recent activities by FOB Bonny under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, during which substantial volumes of suspected stolen crude oil and associated illegal refining infrastructure were uncovered within its area of operations.
According to him, the Nigerian Navy has continued to strengthen surveillance and monitoring across the area to prevent the establishment or reactivation of illegal refining sites.
He said the measures were also aimed at denying criminal operators the infrastructure required to sustain crude oil theft and related activities in the area.
