Operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT have intercepted five bags of Cannabis Sativa weighing about 500 kilogrammes in Lagos and handed them over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
The illicit consignment was seized on February 18, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation around Abule Osun in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, following credible information received by the Navy’s Quick Response Team.

The drugs were officially handed over to the NDLEA, Festac Area Command, on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, described the operation as a testament to the Navy’s resolve to rid the maritime domain and adjoining communities of criminal elements.
According to him, the success of the mission reflects the strategic direction of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, in strengthening operational readiness and inter-agency cooperation.
“The successful interception demonstrates our sustained efforts to curb illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment,” Adams-Aliu said, commending the officers and ratings involved for their vigilance and professionalism.
He reiterated the Navy’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with sister security agencies to secure the nation’s coastal corridors and combat drug trafficking.
The Commander also appealed to residents to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to enhance ongoing operations across Lagos State.
Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, received the seized items on behalf of the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.
The development highlights the deepening partnership between the Navy and anti-drug authorities in the fight against narcotics trafficking.
