The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has partnered with the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Lagos Zonal Office, to sensitise its personnel on pension matters, financial intelligence and effective retirement planning.
The well-attended lecture, held on Monday, August 24, 2026, brought together management staff, area commanders, divisional officers and tactical commanders of the Lagos State Command.
Speaking at the event, the Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, Adedotun Keshinro, fnarc, stressed the importance of equipping personnel with adequate knowledge of pension administration, financial management and other principles that could help them secure their future during and after active service.

Keshinro explained that retirement planning was a financial strategy that enables individuals to save, invest and build sufficient resources to sustain their lifestyle after leaving active employment.
He urged officers not to sacrifice their future financial security for present gratification, advising them to cultivate disciplined savings and investment habits that would provide sustainable income after retirement.
The commandant also directed the Pension Unit of the command to develop a comprehensive sensitisation schedule to ensure that personnel across all formations in Lagos State benefit from the programme through their respective area commands.

The PenCom Lagos Zonal Office was represented by its team lead, Sarah Joseph, who delivered a detailed presentation on various aspects of pension administration and retirement planning.
Joseph explained that the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) is a mandatory system supervised by PenCom under which employers and employees make regular contributions into employees’ Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs).
She also addressed questions from officers on pension remittances, data capturing, Retirement Savings Accounts, pension transfers, pension reforms, gratuity, group life assurance and annuity for life, among other issues.
Representatives of several Pension Fund Administrators, including Leadway, Access ARM, Parthian, Stanbic and TrustFund Pensions, also attended the programme.

The NSCDC said the lecture equipped participating officers with practical knowledge on managing their finances, understanding their pension rights and planning effectively for retirement.
