The Federal Government has commenced arrangements to receive Nigerian citizens being evacuated from the Republic of South Africa, with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) activating emergency response measures ahead of their arrival.
The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has deployed the Agency’s response team to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, to coordinate the reception of the returnees in collaboration with relevant government agencies and other stakeholders.
The move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return and reintegration of Nigerians facing challenges abroad, as preparations have been put in place to provide immediate support upon their arrival.
According to NEMA, the first batch of the evacuees is scheduled to depart O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, on Wednesday night and is expected to arrive in Nigeria in the early hours of Thursday, June 11, 2026, through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The agency noted that all necessary reception arrangements have been activated to ensure a smooth and coordinated process for the returning citizens
