The Nigeria Police Force in Anambra State has flagged off activities for the 2026 National Police Day with a statewide sanitation exercise and free medical outreach.
The programme, which took place across eight Area Commands and 56 Divisional Police Headquarters, saw officers actively participating in environmental sanitation to promote public health and safety.
Residents also benefited from free medical services, including basic health checks and consultations provided by police medical teams.

Police authorities said the initiative is part of efforts to deepen community engagement and improve police-public relations.
Speaking on the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, said the activities form part of a broader programme leading to the National Police Day celebration on April 7.

According to him, the Command remains committed to community-oriented policing and initiatives that build trust.
“The exercise underscores our resolve not only to provide security but also to contribute to the well-being of citizens,” he said.
Residents who participated in the outreach commended the police for extending their role beyond law enforcement.

Observers say such initiatives are critical in bridging the trust gap between security agencies and the public.
The Command urged residents to continue supporting the police in maintaining peace and security.
Officials noted that more activities would follow as part of the Police Day celebration.
