The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has received specialised equipment from the Repatriation and Departure Service (R&DS) of the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to strengthen the operations of its Hostmanship Unit and improve service delivery.
The equipment was presented at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja on Monday as both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing institutional capacity and promoting excellence in migration management.
Receiving the donation, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap described the gesture as another milestone in the more than two decades of collaboration between the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Nandap said the equipment represented a strategic investment in professionalism, institutional excellence and the promotion of a culture of courtesy, empathy and quality service delivery across the Service.
According to her, the donation will strengthen the training capacity and operational efficiency of the Hostmanship Unit while deepening the institutionalisation of the Hostmanship philosophy, which encourages immigration officers to make every individual feel welcomed, respected and valued during service delivery.
Speaking at the event, Ronald Sonnemans described the relationship between the Netherlands and the Nigeria Immigration Service as a model of sustained international cooperation.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Dutch government to supporting initiatives that enhance migration management and strengthen institutional capacity in Nigeria.
The partnership between the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Netherlands has produced several milestones, including the training of hundreds of immigration officers, the establishment of a dedicated Hostmanship Unit and sustained capacity-building programmes under the European Union-funded Capacity Building and Relationship Management (CBR) Project.
Immigration authorities said the latest donation further demonstrates the commitment of both institutions to advancing migration management through innovation, knowledge sharing and strategic collaboration aimed at improving public service delivery and building citizens’ confidence.
The Service expressed appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, particularly the Repatriation and Departure Service, for its continued support of the agency’s reform agenda.
It also pledged to ensure the effective utilisation of the donated equipment while remaining committed to promoting Hostmanship principles across its operations.
