The week-long celebration of the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary came to an exciting close on Saturday as personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO defeated members of their host communities in a thrilling novelty volleyball match that underscored the growing bond between the military formation and its civilian partners.
The keenly contested encounter, held at the Base Volleyball Court, served as the grand finale of the anniversary activities and drew a large crowd of officers, ratings, civilian staff, NYSC members, community leaders and invited guests.

Amid loud cheers from spectators, the FOB FORMOSO team displayed superior teamwork and resilience to claim victory, winning three of the four games played.
The triumph sparked jubilation among personnel and supporters as the champions were presented with a trophy at the end of the competition.

Speaking after the match, the Commanding Officer, Forward Operating Base FORMOSO, Capt SK Haruna, expressed appreciation to personnel, civilian staff and members of the host communities for their support and active participation throughout the anniversary celebrations.

Haruna, who also took part in the volleyball match, said the event was more than a sporting contest, describing it as a platform for strengthening the enduring relationship between the Base and its host communities.
He commended all stakeholders for contributing to the success of the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary celebrations and reaffirmed the Base’s commitment to promoting peace, cooperation and mutual understanding within its area of responsibility.

The novelty volleyball match marked the end of a memorable week of commemorative activities in FORMOSO, leaving participants and spectators with lasting memories of friendship, unity and shared celebration.
