Motorists and commuters along key corridors in Ogun State may soon experience relief as the police command ramps up enforcement against traffic violations, impounding vehicles and clearing illegal structures blamed for persistent gridlock.
The Ogun State Police Command on Monday said it had impounded six vehicles and removed shanties obstructing major roads in Sango Ota and the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axis as part of its ongoing Operation “No Traffic Gridlock.”

The operation, carried out under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, targeted traffic bottlenecks caused by illegal parking, roadside trading, and unauthorised structures.
In Sango Ota, coordinated night raids led by the Area Commander focused on dismantling shanties and clearing structures erected on road setbacks, which authorities say have long contributed to congestion in the busy corridor. Early morning enforcement beginning around 5:00 a.m. further addressed obstruction points, leading to the impoundment of six vehicles found violating traffic regulations.

Police said the interventions have already resulted in improved traffic flow in the area, with monitoring teams deployed to ensure sustained compliance.
A similar exercise was conducted at the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate axis, where enforcement teams tackled indiscriminate parking of heavy-duty trucks and roadside trading along the highway. The operation led to the removal of truck build-ups and other obstructions, significantly easing vehicular movement.

Warning against continued violations, the police commissioner said the command would enforce zero tolerance for activities that hinder free flow of traffic, stressing that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the operation until normalcy is restored across affected routes.

Residents were urged to support the initiative by reporting traffic obstructions through designated emergency lines provided by the command.
