Ogun Police Nab Suspects, Recover Stolen Vehicle, Motorcycles as 89 Vehicles Face Sanctions Over Number Plate Violations

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on crime and traffic-related offences, apprehending 89 motorists for number plate violations while foiling armed robbery operations that led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle, two motorcycles and the arrest of suspects across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP OLUSEYI B. BABASEYI, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, saying the successes were recorded through intelligence-led operations and preventive policing strategies ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, and implemented by the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR.
According to the statement, the command enforced the IGP’s nationwide directive against vehicles operating without registration plates or with covered, altered or obscured number plates. The operation resulted in the interception of 89 vehicles and their drivers, with offenders subjected to appropriate administrative and legal actions, including prosecution where necessary.
The command explained that the exercise is intended to improve vehicle traceability, strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance investigations and deny criminals the anonymity often exploited in the commission of crimes. It added that the enforcement campaign would be sustained across Ogun State.
In a separate operation on July 3, operatives of the Ogere Division, working with the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, local vigilantes and community members, responded to an armed robbery incident at Akuro Phase I, Ogere Remo, where gunmen reportedly invaded a residence and carted away two motorcycles, mobile phones, cash and other valuables.
The police said a coordinated tactical response forced the fleeing suspects to abandon the two stolen motorcycles before escaping into a nearby bush. One suspect, Abdulsalam Adam, was later arrested and is assisting investigators. Officers also recovered a knife, an expended cartridge and a broken padlock from the scene, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, as efforts continue to apprehend other gang members.
Similarly, operatives of the Ajuwon Division recovered a stolen Toyota Camry and arrested one Israel Salako following a robbery attack at Baale Akinosi Area, Ajuwon, on July 2.
The command said hoodlums had invaded a residence and made away with mobile phones, jewellery, power banks, a laptop computer, the Toyota Camry and other valuables before the Division’s Anti-Crime Team launched a coordinated pursuit. The suspects reportedly abandoned the stolen vehicle on sighting the police, while Salako was arrested during the operation. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and recover other stolen items.
Commending the officers involved in the successful operations, CP Bode Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive, intelligence-driven policing through sustained visibility patrols, strategic stop-and-search operations, prompt response to distress calls and stronger community partnership.
He urged motorists to comply with vehicle registration requirements and advised residents to remain security-conscious by boarding commercial vehicles only at designated motor parks and recognised loading points, while avoiding unbranded or illegally operated commercial vehicles.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime across Ogun State.
