The Ogun State Police Command has successfully recovered a stolen Toyota RAV4 and returned it to its rightful owner in Abeokuta, marking another win for the command’s operational vigilance.
The silver Toyota RAV4 was intercepted by operatives from the Obantoko Division during a routine patrol in the Somorin area. On January 17, 2026, the division’s surveillance team discovered the vehicle abandoned under suspicious circumstances and immediately secured it at the station for verification.
Following standard investigative procedures, the command disseminated information regarding the recovery to locate the owner. After the claimant provided the necessary documentation and underwent a thorough verification process, they were confirmed as the lawful owner.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Obantoko Division subsequently performed a formal handover, returning the vehicle, keys, and documents to the grateful owner.
Confirming the recovery, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, noted that the incident highlights the effectiveness of proactive policing.
“The vehicle was secured during a routine patrol and was only released after a rigorous verification of ownership documents,” Babaseyi explained.
The spokesperson further relayed that the Commissioner of Police praised the Obantoko Division Surveillance Team for their professionalism and swift action. The Commissioner urged all officers to maintain high levels of vigilance and continue prioritizing community-oriented policing to safeguard lives and property across the state.
