Operation HADIN KAI Clears Man Earlier Reported as Terror Suspect After Investigation

Operation HADIN KAI has officially cleared an individual previously reported as a suspected terrorist, saying extensive intelligence assessments and investigations found no evidence linking him to any terrorist organisation, in a move the military says underscores its commitment to professionalism and due process.
The clarification was contained in a statement on Thursday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, following media reports published on July 14, 2026, concerning the interception of the individual by troops of the 68 Battalion during an exploitation operation after the attack at Cross Kauwa.
According to the statement, the individual has been identified as Aboubakar Muhammad Zein-Nur, also known as Houdairi, who was taken into custody in line with established operational procedures due to the security challenges in the North-East and the frequent use of border corridors by terrorist elements for movement and logistics.
The military explained that comprehensive intelligence assessments and other investigative processes established that Zein-Nur has no affiliation with any known terrorist group.
It further revealed that he is a resident of Shattu Anguba Village in Bosso, Republic of Niger, where he is engaged in camel rearing beyond the River Komadougou.
Operation HADIN KAI said the outcome of the investigation led to his exoneration, stressing that individuals intercepted under suspicious circumstances during military operations are subjected to security screening and due process to distinguish innocent civilians from terrorist elements.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain pressure on terrorist groups while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.
