Oyo Kidnap: NSCDC Reaffirms Safe Schools Commitment After Rescue Of 44 Pupils, Teachers

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative following the successful rescue of 44 abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a major victory for inter-agency security collaboration against terrorism.
The commendation was conveyed in a statement issued on Saturday by the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, Afolabi Babawale, who said the Commandant General praised the professionalism, resilience and coordinated efforts of the Joint Security Team that carried out the intelligence-driven rescue mission.
According to the statement, the victims, who were abducted by terrorists on May 15, 2026, regained their freedom following a well-coordinated operation involving personnel from the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) under the Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence Headquarters, the Nigerian Army Special Forces, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Prof. Audi described the successful operation as a clear demonstration of the effectiveness of intelligence sharing, inter-agency cooperation and the Federal Government’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism, secure educational institutions and safeguard the lives and property of Nigerians.
He applauded the courage, professionalism and sacrifice displayed by all the security personnel involved, stressing that the NSCDC would continue to strengthen the protection of schools and other Critical National Assets and Infrastructure through proactive intelligence gathering, strategic deployment of personnel, community engagement and sustained collaboration with sister security agencies.
The NSCDC boss also called on Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information capable of leading to the arrest of criminal elements, noting that national security remains a shared responsibility.
Prof. Audi further reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC High Command to the effective discharge of the Corps’ statutory responsibilities, including the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, disaster mitigation, emergency rescue operations, and the training and supervision of Private Guard Companies.
He added that the Corps would continue to strengthen its synergy with other security agencies to promote a safer, more secure and peaceful Nigeria.
