The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested no fewer than 14 suspects over alleged car theft and ‘one chance’ robbery, recovering 17 stolen vehicles across Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the command headquarters.

Sanusi said the arrests followed intensified intelligence-led operations carried out between March and April 2026 across divisions including Mabushi, Durumi, Maitama, and the Central Police Station.
He said, “From March 2026 till date, the FCT Police Command has conducted several anti-crime operations across the FCT… This resulted in the arrest of fourteen suspects and the recovery of seventeen vehicles.”

According to him, the operations targeted car theft syndicates involved in snatching vehicles at gunpoint, stealing parked vehicles, and using vehicles for ‘one chance’ robberies.
The CP added that some of the recovered vehicles had already been returned to their rightful owners, while others remained in police custody pending identification.

Speaking on a recent incident, Sanusi revealed that police operatives foiled a ‘one chance’ robbery on April 10 along a lonely road in Abuja.
He explained, “Upon sighting the Police team, three suspects alighted from the vehicle and opened fire on the officers… The officers responded decisively, injuring and arresting one of the suspects.”
He added that two female victims were rescued from the vehicle, noting that one of them alleged she was raped by a member of the gang.
The police boss further disclosed that another fleeing suspect was later tracked and arrested, with the victim positively identifying him.

Sanusi also warned against the spread of fake security information, citing the arrest of a content creator for allegedly spreading false claims of bandit attacks in Abuja.
“This serves as a reminder that dissemination of unverified content aimed at causing panic remains a criminal offence,” he said.
He confirmed that the suspect had been arraigned and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre.
