The Nigeria Police Force has arrested dozens of suspects for offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, and terrorism in operations conducted across several states.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
“Today is yet another day that serves as testimonial of the endless and relentless efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in the pursuit of justice and apprehension of criminals,” he said.
He said the arrests were made by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team between January and April 2026.
“In the period under review, these operatives have followed up on several gunrunning, kidnapping syndicates’ clandestine activities,” he added.
Placid said the police recorded multiple recoveries, including rifles, ammunition, communication equipment, and an anti-aircraft launcher.

He said one suspect was arrested for unlawful possession of firearms, while four suspects were arrested in Benue State for armed robbery using fake police checkpoints.
“The suspects specialised in mounting fake police checkpoints to rob unsuspecting members of the public,” he said.

In Abuja, four suspects were arrested for alleged involvement in abduction and “one chance” operations.
Three suspects were also arrested in Taraba State in connection with the killing of three policemen.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are the brain behind the killing of three policemen attached to Donga Divisional Police Headquarters,” he said.
Placid further disclosed that 33 suspects linked to terrorism and other crimes were arrested in Kwara and Kogi States.
“During operations, the suspects abandoned an anti-aircraft launcher and three AK-47 rifles, which were subsequently recovered,” he said.

He added that efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects and recover more weapons.
“The Force will continue to strengthen its investigative capabilities and collaborate with other law enforcement partners… we remain steadfast in our mission to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of every citizen,” he said.
