Police Arrest Three Suspected Cultists, Recover Guns, Dangerous Weapons in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation in Imota, recovering firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the operation was launched following credible intelligence from residents on the activities of suspected cultists in the area.
According to the statement, police operatives stormed the location and arrested 37-year-old Jelili Adeyemo, alleged to be the group’s armourer, alongside Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.
Items recovered during the operation include a Beretta pistol, a locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, a stun gun, two handcuffs and four cutlasses, among other exhibits.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye Confraternity, adding that the recovered Beretta pistol allegedly belongs to a wanted cult leader identified as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.
The statement added that the suspects have been arraigned in court and remanded, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that would assist ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
The Command also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious persons, vehicles or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
