Police bust baby factory in Ogun, rescue two pregnant women, four children

The Ogun State Police Command has busted an alleged baby factory in Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children and arresting six suspects in connection with the operation.
The raid, carried out by operatives of the Mowe Division on Monday, August 24, followed sustained intelligence gathering on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility in Abaren Village, Mowe.
The police said operatives stormed the suspected hideout at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, at about 8am and rescued two pregnant women identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.
Six suspects arrested during the operation were identified as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
The command said further intelligence-led operations took police operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had delivered a baby boy on August 20.
Although Effiong was found receiving medical treatment at the hospital, the whereabouts of her newborn baby could not be immediately established.
The attending nurse was subsequently arrested to assist the police in locating the missing infant and unraveling the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance.
The police said the case was being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
The investigation, according to the command, would determine the full extent of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and ensure that anyone found culpable faces prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information on suspicious persons and activities.
