In a decisive blow against cult-related violence and drug abuse, the Anambra State Police Command has raided a notorious criminal hideout in Enugwu-Ukwu, arresting eight suspects and recovering illicit substances in a coordinated operation.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Unit in Eze-Allah, Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected cult members in the area. The raid, which took place on the evening of April 16, 2026, led to the arrest of eight male suspects allegedly linked to cultism and the seizure of quantities of suspected Cannabis Sativa and other dangerous drugs.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement on April 25, said the suspects include Chidalu Nwafor (27), Chiemerie Nwazueje (24), Chima Arwuike (25), Jideobi Emeka (26), Oliver Okonkwo (18), Izuchukwu Christian (18), Onyebuchi (21), and Walter Idouzour (44).

The Command noted that the widespread use of illicit drugs continues to fuel criminal activities, particularly among youth groups engaged in cultism, stressing the need for sustained enforcement and community support in combating the menace.
According to the police, the suspects are currently undergoing profiling and further investigation, after which they will be charged to court.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Command assured residents of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and maintain law and order across the state.
