The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday declared open an Executive Leadership Retreat for top officers of the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to drive institutional reforms.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force said the retreat, which brings together Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs), marks a significant milestone in its transformation agenda.

The Police Reform Secretariat, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is hosting the two-day event at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
During the session, Professor Olu Ogunsakin, Head of the Police Reform Secretariat and Director General of the National Institute for Policy Studies (NIPS), highlighted strides made under the Supporting Police Accountability and Transformation (SPAT) programme funded by the UNDP and the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO).
He said, “We have recorded significant strides through the SPAT programme, including a fully revised national recruit curriculum—the first since 1968—and a modern, rights-based framework as contained in the newly gazetted Nigeria Police Regulations 2025.”
In his remarks, IGP Disu emphasized that the retreat is central to his policy thrust on sustainable reform.
He stated, “This retreat is a cornerstone of our policy direction focused on sustainable and positive reform. Leadership at this level must be defined by vision, accountability, and the ability to inspire public confidence.”
The IGP further stressed that success would be measured by concrete outcomes.
According to him, “Genuine success in this engagement will be reflected by visible progress in operational efficiency, discipline, and adherence to human rights across all commands.”
The retreat will feature technical sessions on evidence-based budgeting, community policing strategies, and digital transformation, underscoring the Force’s commitment to becoming a people-oriented institution anchored on the rule of law and transparency.

As the retreat continues through March 25, the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its appreciation to the UNDP and other international partners for their support in strengthening Nigeria’s policing system.
