The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite, leading to the arrest of two suspects nearly three months after the incident.
The suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were arrested following an investigation by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her daughter missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.
Ikenga said that on March 14, the lifeless body of an unidentified woman was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite before the victim’s father later identified the corpse as that of his missing daughter.

He explained that after the case was transferred to the SCID in Awka for detailed investigation, detectives leveraged intelligence and digital forensic leads to track down the suspects.
The police spokesperson stated that the suspects were eventually arrested on June 6, 2026.
According to Ikenga, the principal suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.
He quoted the suspect as saying he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and was unaware that she was married.
The suspect allegedly told investigators that following a disagreement with the deceased’s husband, he developed resentment and plotted the attack.
“On 13th March 2026, he lured the deceased to his residence under the guise of seeking help due to illness. Upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her, resulting in her death,” Ikenga stated.
He added that the suspects subsequently disposed of the body in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite.
The police spokesperson disclosed that both suspects had confessed to their involvement and would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended detectives for their resilience and professionalism in uncovering the case.
The commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
