The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, two Assistant Inspectors-General, and 26,119 Inspectors across the Nigeria Police Force.
The approvals were granted during the Commission’s 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

In a statement signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head, Protocol and Public Affairs, PSC, the Commission said the promotions followed due process and merit-based assessment.
According to the statement, Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, mni, was elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police.
The Commission also promoted Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
The PSC explained that the senior officers emerged successful after written examinations and oral interviews.
It added that 26,119 Inspectors were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II following their performance in the Departmental Selection Board Examination.
Providing details on Adegboye’s profile, the Commission noted his extensive experience in operations, training, administration, and international peacekeeping missions.
AIG Aboki was formerly the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, while AIG Idi served as Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, congratulated the beneficiaries.
“The Commission is dedicated to recognizing hard work, dedication, and competence. These promotions are a testament to that commitment,” Argungu said.

He added, “I urge all the promoted officers to see their new ranks as a call to greater service, higher responsibility, and redoubled dedication to the safety and security of our nation.”
The Chairman commended the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters for its diligence.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and transparency.
