The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Lagos, has witnessed a leadership transition with the assumption of duty by Simeon U. Akpanudom as the 56th Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the formation.
The development marks a new phase in the department’s operations, with a renewed focus on strengthening investigative capacity and institutional reforms.
Akpanudom succeeds Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who previously headed the formation before his elevation to the position of Inspector-General of Police by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In his remarks, the new AIG outlined priorities centred on professionalism, accountability and respect for human rights.

According to him, “the FCID Annex Lagos will sustain high standards in criminal investigation while enhancing public trust through transparency and efficiency.”
Akpanudom brings decades of policing experience, having joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992.
He previously served as Commissioner of Police in charge of the Anti-Fraud Section, where he led efforts to combat financial crimes.

His academic background includes degrees from the University of Calabar, University of Port Harcourt and the Nigerian Defence Academy.
He is also a graduate of the National Defence College, Abuja, where he undertook advanced strategic and leadership training.
His professional experience spans tactical, operational and strategic roles, including international peacekeeping under the United Nations Mission in Kosovo.

He has received multiple awards, including the Inspector-General’s Commendation and the United Nations Medal.
Akpanudom emphasised the need to modernise investigative processes through technology-driven approaches.
He noted that detectives would undergo training aligned with global best practices to enhance efficiency.

The new AIG also called for public cooperation, stressing that effective policing requires collective responsibility.
The appointment is expected to further strengthen the operational capacity of the FCID in addressing complex and evolving criminal activities.
