Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team, have killed more than 21 Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists during a major offensive in Adamawa State.
The operation, conducted in the Kopre Mountain general area of Hong Local Government Area, also led to the destruction of a major terrorist camp and the recovery of several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri on Thursday.
Goni said the operation was launched in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026, following credible intelligence on the location of the terrorists’ enclave.
He said the joint force comprised operatives of the ONSA Tactical Team and newly inducted troops of 226 Battalion, deployed to Sector 4, Adamawa State, on the directive of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu.
According to him, the troops conducted a stealth operation through the rugged terrain, successfully penetrated the terrorists’ camp and engaged them in two separate encounters.
He said more than 21 terrorists were neutralised during the fierce engagements, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
“During the operation, troops successfully closed in on the terrorist camp and engaged the terrorists in two separate encounters. Following fierce engagements, over 21 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. The joint force subsequently dominated the area, dismantled the entire terrorist camp and destroyed associated logistics infrastructure, thereby further degrading the terrorists’ operational capability within the area,” he stated.
The troops subsequently took control of the area, dismantled the entire terrorist camp and destroyed logistics infrastructure believed to have supported the terrorists’ operations.
Goni said the offensive was part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue victims being held by terrorists, including persons abducted from Mussa community in May and schoolchildren abducted from Lassa in June.
During exploitation of the camp, he said troops destroyed several motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans containing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), believed to have been used for terrorist logistics and mobility.
The troops also recovered several AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The military spokesman said the operation demonstrated the troops’ ability to project combat power into difficult terrain, dismantle terrorist strongholds and deny insurgents freedom of action.
He commended the ONSA Tactical Team and Operation Hadin Kai troops for their gallantry, professionalism, resilience and coordination during the offensive.
He assured that the joint task force would sustain aggressive intelligence-driven operations to locate and rescue abducted persons, destroy terrorist strongholds, disrupt their logistics and degrade their fighting capability across the North-East.
Goni urged members of the public to remain confident in the ongoing military operations, stressing that the theatre would continue its operations until abducted persons are located and rescued and lasting peace restored to the region.
