Troops Repel Coordinated Terrorist Attacks, Rescue Kidnapped District Head in Katsina
Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple terrorist attacks across Katsina and Zamfara states, rescued a kidnapped district head and recovered arms, ammunition and motorcycles in a series of coordinated operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the North-West.
The operations, carried out on July 2, were disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, who said the sustained offensives reflected the task force’s resolve to protect communities, safeguard lives and intensify pressure on terrorist groups operating across the region.
According to the statement, troops of Sector 2, while on a fighting patrol between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State, came under fire from fleeing terrorists. The troops responded with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their operation and escape. One AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles were recovered from the scene.
In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes responded to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during the ensuing gun battle.
The task force also recorded a major breakthrough in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, responded to reports that terrorists riding on several motorcycles had abducted the District Head of Farin Hawa Village, Mr. Mubarak Sharin.
Security operatives pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralised one of them, disrupted their escape and successfully rescued the traditional ruler.
In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled an attack on their position at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
Reinforced by a fighting patrol, the troops forced the terrorists to retreat after a fierce exchange of gunfire and recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack (CamelBak).
Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage, professionalism and resilience of its personnel as well as collaborating security agencies, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while working closely with local communities to protect lives and property across the North-West.
