Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI have repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on military formations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok in Borno State.
The troops also neutralised several insurgent leaders during the fierce overnight confrontations.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
He said the terrorists launched the attacks between about 10:30 pm and 3:00 am but were repelled by troops who mounted strong resistance.
“Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have once again successfully thwarted coordinated terrorist attempts to overrun troops’ locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana and Mainok,” he said.
“The desperate attacks, launched between approximately 2230hrs uptill 0300 hours this morning, were met with overwhelming resistance from alert and determined troops who firmly held their defensive positions despite the intensity of the assaults.”
According to him, reinforcement teams from Sectors 1 and 2 carried out coordinated manoeuvres that forced the insurgents to retreat.
“In a well-coordinated response, troops executed simultaneous flanking manoeuvres alongside reinforcement teams drawn from Sectors 1 and 2, decisively routing the attacking terrorists and forcing them into disorganised withdrawals.”
He added that several terrorist leaders, including key commanders known as Amirs, were killed during the operation.

“During the fierce engagements, several terrorist leaders, including key Amirs (Leaders), were neutralised while a number of insurgent fighters were eliminated during the counter-offensive.”
The statement added that the Air Component carried out precision air strikes against fleeing insurgents, further weakening their operational capability.
Ground troops, he said, are continuing exploitation operations to recover weapons and other combat equipment.
“Ground troops are currently conducting exploitation operations across the affected areas, with recovery of terrorist corpses, weapons and other combat equipment ongoing.”

He, however, said some soldiers died during the clashes.
“Regrettably, a number of brave soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, including a gallant Officer who fought courageously from the front while leading his troops against the attackers.”
