Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued abductees, recovered rustled livestock and neutralised two suspected terrorists during separate operations in Sokoto and Katsina states.
The Joint Task Force North West disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by its Media Information Officer, Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja.

According to the statement, troops acting on intelligence foiled an attempt by terrorists to infiltrate Tureta town in Sokoto State on June 21.
The military said the suspects fled after encountering troops.

It added that aerial surveillance later tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were allegedly moving with abducted civilians and rustled cattle.
The troops launched a pursuit operation and successfully repelled an ambush mounted by the suspects.

The operation resulted in the rescue of abductees, recovery of rustled cattle and seizure of two motorcycles.
In a separate operation carried out in the early hours of June 22, troops raided a suspected terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The statement said two terrorists were killed during the operation, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the hideout were a PKT assault rifle, an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, three motorcycles, communication devices and other logistics items.

Danja said the operations demonstrated the resolve of troops to dismantle terrorist networks and deny criminal groups freedom of action across the North-West region.
He added that the military would sustain aggressive operations to restore lasting peace and security in the affected areas.
