The Nigeria Police Force has ordered immediate disciplinary action against ASP Newton Isokpehi following a viral video in which the officer allegedly threatened members of the public for recording police activities.
The Force described the officer’s conduct as unacceptable and contrary to the ethics and reform agenda of the police institution.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the police said the video had attracted serious attention and concern.
According to the statement, the actions and utterances of the officer were inconsistent with the standards of professionalism and accountability expected of police personnel.
“The conduct and utterances exhibited in the video are unacceptable, unprofessional, and inconsistent with the ethics, standards, and code of conduct of the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement said.

The police noted that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has repeatedly affirmed the rights of Nigerians to lawfully film police officers while carrying out their duties, provided such recordings do not obstruct operations or compromise safety.
The Force disclosed that ASP Isokpehi has already been summoned to the Anambra State Police Command headquarters where disciplinary procedures have commenced.
The police further stressed that threats, intimidation, abuse of office and acts capable of damaging public confidence in law enforcement would not be tolerated.
The statement reaffirmed that public recording of police activities remains a lawful instrument for transparency and accountability.
The Force assured Nigerians that the outcome of the disciplinary measures against the officer would be made public in due course.
It also thanked members of the public for their continued support and engagement in promoting accountability and improved policing standards nationwide.
