The Anambra State Police Command has acknowledged the passion and public support demonstrated by the Commissioner for Education, Anambra State, towards the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command noted that the positive disposition reflects the growing acceptance and support of the Nigeria Police Force by Ndi Anambra and serves as encouragement for more qualified indigenes of the state to consider a career in policing.
Ikenga stated that the Command observes that the positive disposition “reflects the growing acceptance and support of the Nigeria Police by Ndi Anambra and serves as encouragement for more qualified indigenes of the state to consider a career in policing.”
He clarified that the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Ngozi Chuma Udeh, is not a police officer, but a committed, police-loving volunteer who, aside from her appointment by the state government, chose to contribute her quota as a security-conscious citizen by serving the nation through the Police Supernumerary Unit.
According to Ikenga, members of the Police Supernumerary Unit are not regular police officers and, although they wear police uniforms, are not authorised to carry arms or perform full policing duties such as general patrols, criminal investigations or public arrests.
“They can, however, assist in other supportive capacities when the need arises,” he added.
Ikenga reiterated the Command’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships, promoting professionalism and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure safety and security across the state.
“Given the above, the Command reiterates its commitment to strengthening community partnerships, promoting professionalism and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure safety and security across Anambra State,” he stated.
The Command further encouraged eligible youths of Anambra State to take advantage of ongoing and future recruitment opportunities into the Nigeria Police Force, noting that their participation remains vital to effective community policing and sustainable security.
