The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has been nominated for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council Award for Exemplary Support and Media-Friendly Leadership.
In a nomination letter dated April 20, 2026, and signed by the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, the union said the nomination followed the Defence Chief’s “consistent support for a free, responsible and accountable media environment in Nigeria.”
The union noted that General Musa had demonstrated uncommon commitment to strengthening collaboration between the military and the media, particularly in promoting national unity, security awareness and responsible journalism.
According to the letter, the CDS’ “steadfast commitment to a professional, yet distinguished leadership in the support to institutional order and unwavering support for a free, responsible, and accountable environment in Nigeria” earned him the recognition.
The NUJ further stated that the Defence Chief played a significant role in upholding national unity, safeguarding democratic institutions and fostering mutual respect between the armed forces and media practitioners.
The award presentation is scheduled to hold during the NUJ FCT Council Press Week 2026 on May 3, 2026, in Abuja.
The event, themed “Journalism Development in the Era of Information,” is expected to attract media executives, government officials and key stakeholders to discuss the evolving role of the Fourth Estate in national development and security.
