CSO Commends AIG Jimoh over Ajiran Murder Investigation, Seeks Continued Oversight

The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has commended the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Moshood Jimoh, for what it described as his professionalism and leadership in the investigation of the Ajiran community murder cases during his tenure as Commissioner of Police, Lagos State.
In a letter addressed to the AIG and signed by its President, Comrade Alex Omotehinse, the organisation specifically acknowledged the investigation into the killings of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye.
According to the group, the arrest of Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi and other suspects, as well as the subsequent prosecution of the case, reinforced public confidence in the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to justice and accountability.
”Your decisive actions, particularly in the arrest of Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi and other suspects, as well as the thorough investigative process that led to their arraignment, significantly restored public confidence and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to justice and accountability,” the letter stated.
The organisation, however, expressed concern over the alleged conduct of some operatives attached to the Delta Force Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos, alleging that their actions during the ongoing trial appeared to favour the defendants.
It warned that such conduct could undermine the credibility of the investigation and the judicial process if left unchecked.
The CHSR therefore appealed to AIG Jimoh to ensure that officers connected with the matter continue to uphold professionalism, neutrality and discipline throughout the prosecution of the case.
”We therefore urge your esteemed office to take appropriate steps to ensure that all officers involved maintain the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and discipline, so that the integrity of the case is preserved as it proceeds before a court of competent jurisdiction,” the organisation stated.
