The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger/Kogi Area Command, has organised a health lecture on hypertension for its officers as part of efforts to promote workplace wellness and enhance operational efficiency.
The initiative, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Command Conference Room, was facilitated by the Customs Area Controller, MS Umar, who emphasised the importance of prioritising the health of personnel in the line of duty.
Representing the Area Controller at the event, the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, A. Dalha, conveyed the Controller’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of officers, noting that a healthy workforce is critical to effective service delivery.

He urged officers to take advantage of the knowledge shared during the session and adopt healthier lifestyles to enhance their productivity and longevity in service.
The lecture was delivered by the Command’s Medical Doctor, UI Muhammed, who provided detailed insights into the causes, symptoms, prevention and management of hypertension, describing the condition as a “silent killer” that often goes undetected until serious complications arise.
Muhammed stressed the importance of regular medical check-ups and early detection, while advising officers to maintain a balanced diet, reduce salt intake, engage in regular physical exercise and effectively manage stress levels.

“Hypertension can lead to severe health complications if not properly managed. It is important that officers pay close attention to their health and take preventive measures seriously,” he said.
In his remarks, Dalha reiterated the need for officers to take personal responsibility for their health, noting that maintaining good physical condition is essential for optimal performance in security operations.

The event also featured an interactive session, during which officers engaged the resource person with questions and received professional guidance on managing their health and adopting sustainable lifestyle changes.
Delivering the vote of thanks, H.H. Waziri commended the Command’s management for organising the lecture and appreciated the resource person for the enlightening presentation.
