In a rare gathering of Nigeria’s past police chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday received a high-powered delegation of former Inspectors-General of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, in a move aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and advancing ongoing police reforms.
The meeting, held on July 2, 2026, underscored the commitment of the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to draw from decades of institutional experience in addressing emerging security challenges and enhancing policing across the country.
The delegation comprised distinguished former Inspectors-General of Police, including Aliyu Attah (Rtd), Sunday Ehindero (Rtd), Mike Mbama Okiro (Rtd), Ogbonna Onachukwu Onovo (Rtd), Abubakar Ringim (Rtd), Mohammed Dikko Abubakar (Rtd), Sulaiman Abba (Rtd), Usman Alkali Baba (Rtd), and Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun (Rtd).
Discussions during the visit focused on harnessing the extensive institutional memory, professional expertise and strategic insights of the former police chiefs to confront contemporary security threats and accelerate ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaking during the engagement, IGP Disu expressed profound appreciation to his predecessors for the visit, describing their collective wealth of experience as an invaluable asset to the Force.
He noted that continued collaboration with former police leaders would strengthen the administration’s resolve to build a more professional, responsive and effective police institution capable of meeting Nigeria’s evolving security needs.
The visit is widely seen as a demonstration of unity, continuity and shared commitment among past and present police leadership towards improving national security and deepening reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.
