The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Hope Isiani Okereke as the new head of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for the Enugu State Command. This strategic deployment, which became effective on January 5, 2026, is aimed at enhancing professionalism, integrity, and evidence-led policing within the state’s investigative arm. According to a statement from Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, DCP Okereke has assumed full operational and supervisory authority over all criminal investigations in Enugu.
DCP Okereke brings more than 20 years of diverse experience to the role, with a career that spans intelligence, operational command, and high-level administration. A graduate of Linguistics and Communication Studies from the University of Port Harcourt and a 2004 graduate of the Police Academy, Wudil, she has held significant positions across various states. Her background includes roles as a Divisional Traffic Officer in Borno and a Divisional Crime Officer in Rivers State. Her tenure as a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Rivers State was particularly notable, earning her recognition as the “Most Outstanding Performing DPO” for her operational effectiveness.
Since her transfer to Enugu in 2017, Okereke has managed key divisions such as Trans-Ekulu and New Haven, where she was credited with strengthening administrative controls and community relations. Following her promotion to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2020, she served as ACP Operations at Zone 9 Headquarters in Umuahia and subsequently returned to Enugu as ACP Administration. The police leadership emphasized that her promotion to Deputy Commissioner and her subsequent assignment to lead the SCID are based on her proven track record of ethical leadership and her commitment to due process.
The Nigeria Police Force leadership expressed full confidence in DCP Okereke’s ability to modernize the investigative process in Enugu. CSP Hundeyin noted that her appointment is expected to ensure that criminal investigations are conducted in a manner that is lawful, evidence-driven, and fully respectful of human rights. This repositioning of the SCID is a key part of the IGP’s broader vision to ensure that police investigations across the country are professionally defensible and maintain the highest standards of discipline.
