The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has declared open a three-day National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue in Abuja as part of activities marking International Youth Day 2026.
The programme, organised under the National Youth Security and Peacebuilding Initiative, commenced on Thursday, August 20, and will run until August 22, 2026.
Themed “Different Contents, Common Aspiration,” the programme is aimed at promoting youth inclusion, peacebuilding, innovation and responsible citizenship.

The first day of the engagement focused on Youth Leadership, Security and National Development, with discussions around national security, digital responsibility, civic participation, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity, innovation and mental health.
In his remarks, Disu urged young Nigerians to reject political violence, criminal manipulation and digital thuggery, stressing that no political ambition was worth jeopardising the future of Nigerian youths.

He called on young people to embrace peace, leadership, innovation and responsible citizenship rather than violence, hate, misinformation and other destructive conduct.
The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting democratic participation, securing communities and working with young people and other stakeholders to build a safer and more peaceful society.

According to him, the dialogue provides an important platform for youths to contribute meaningfully to national development and democratic stability.
The programme attracted government representatives, development partners, youth leaders, members of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, the Police Community Relations Committee, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed optimism that the three-day engagement would generate practical outcomes capable of strengthening youth participation, community safety and national peace.

The programme continues on Friday, August 21, and concludes on Saturday, August 22.
