The Nigeria Police Force has commenced a nationwide audit of arms and ammunition across all police commands and formations as part of ongoing institutional reforms aimed at strengthening accountability and operational efficiency.
The directive was issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the police disclosed that all Commissioners of Police nationwide had been directed to immediately begin a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition under their respective commands.
According to Placid, the exercise is aimed at strengthening accountability, identifying operational gaps, preventing misuse of police assets, and enhancing the operational readiness of the Force.
The police spokesman stated that the Inspector-General emphasised that the exercise goes beyond a routine administrative process and represents a critical institutional reform measure.
According to the statement, the IGP stressed the need to ensure that all firearms and ammunition entrusted to the police are properly documented, secured, and effectively deployed in line with operational standards and national security objectives.
Placid disclosed that Commissioners of Police have been instructed to ensure that the audit process is thorough, transparent, and professionally documented.
He added that detailed reports from the exercise are expected to be submitted to Force Headquarters within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to reforms anchored on professionalism, accountability, transparency, and effective internal control systems.
The Force spokesman further stated that ongoing reforms under the present leadership are aimed at building a more disciplined, efficient, and accountable police institution capable of effectively addressing contemporary security challenges.
The police assured Nigerians that measures are being strengthened to improve institutional integrity and operational effectiveness nationwide.
