IGP Disu Reaffirms Commitment To Police Families’ Welfare At POWA Annual Meeting

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to improving the welfare of serving officers and their families, describing the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) as a critical pillar of support for policing in the country.
Speaking at the Annual Meeting of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, the IGP commended members of the association for their unwavering dedication to the welfare of police families, widows, children of fallen officers and other vulnerable members of the police community, noting that their humanitarian interventions complement the Force’s welfare initiatives.
He congratulated the National President of POWA, Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, on her assumption of office, describing the convention as the first major gathering under her leadership.
He expressed confidence that the association would continue to strengthen its legacy of service while exploring new opportunities to enhance the welfare of police families nationwide.
According to the IGP, POWA has evolved beyond an association of police spouses into a formidable platform for humanitarian service, family support and community engagement, earning recognition for its compassion and selfless service over the years.
Disu acknowledged the sacrifices made by police families, noting that the demanding nature of policing often requires officers to spend long hours away from home while facing significant risks in the line of duty.
He said the encouragement and stability provided by their families remain essential to the effective discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
He also urged members of the association to continue serving as worthy ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force by upholding the values of integrity, discipline, humility and compassion in their interactions with the public and within their communities.
The Inspector-General reiterated that the Force would continue to support programmes focused on family welfare, education, healthcare, skills acquisition, women’s empowerment and social development in collaboration with POWA.
He encouraged delegates at the convention to strengthen unity among members, embrace innovation and sustain the spirit of volunteerism that has distinguished the association over the years, expressing optimism that their collective efforts would continue to inspire hope, strengthen police families and positively impact communities across the country.
The IGP concluded by appreciating members of the association for their invaluable contributions to the Nigeria Police Force and wished them productive deliberations and successful resolutions at the annual convention.
