Jigawa Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Smash Robbery Syndicate, Recover Motorcycles, Cows, Vandalised Cables

The Jigawa State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities with the arrest of several suspects linked to attempted kidnapping, armed robbery, vandalism, theft and criminal intimidation, while recovering five motorcycles, four cows, a large quantity of vandalised electrical cable and other incriminating items in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Police Command, who said the successful operations underscore the Command’s sustained commitment to combating crime and safeguarding lives and property.
According to the statement, police operatives attached to Malam Madori Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Usman Muhammad, 25, of Unguwar Ganye, Malam Madori Local Government Area, on June 19, 2026, while allegedly vandalising an extension coiled electrical cable at Gari Uku, Malam Madori.
The recovered cable was seized as an exhibit, while the suspect reportedly confessed to committing the crime with four accomplices who remain at large.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
On the same day, officers at Kiyawa Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Abubakar Mohammed, 25, of Zawaya Village, Kiyawa LGA, and Sulaiman Idris (alias Hardo), 27, of Manuna Village, Itas-Gadau LGA, Bauchi State, over an alleged attempted kidnapping. Police said the suspects threatened a victim through anonymous telephone calls, demanding ₦4 million after falsely claiming they had been contracted with ₦2 million to kidnap or kill him. The suspects were tracked and apprehended, while investigations continue at the SCID.
In another operation on June 21, operatives attached to Taura Division responded to a distress call over an armed robbery at Chuwasu Village, Taura Local Government Area, where assailants allegedly attacked a victim with sticks and cutlasses before stealing his black Boxer motorcycle. The suspects abandoned the motorcycle and fled upon sighting the patrol team, while efforts to arrest them are ongoing.
Police also recovered four suspected stolen cows during coordinated operations by detectives from Taura, Malam Madori and Birniwa Divisions.
Two suspects, Musa Shehu, 40, and Adamu Shehu, 30, both of Boguwa settlement camp, were arrested.
The recovered livestock has been returned to the rightful owner on bond, while the matter has been charged to court.
Similarly, detectives from Takur Site Division arrested Mustapha Umar, 19, of Azare LGA, Bauchi State, on June 22 over the theft of a Samsung A14 mobile phone belonging to Mercy Onoja. During a search of the suspects’ hotel accommodation, police recovered a knife, master keys, screwdrivers, wristwatches, scissors, a mobile phone, a horn, perfume and other suspected burglary tools. The suspect reportedly confessed to acting with three accomplices from Kaduna and Bauchi states, who are currently on the run.
In a separate intelligence-led operation on June 23, detectives attached to Kazaure Division dismantled an alleged motorcycle theft syndicate along Dandi-Kazaure Road, arresting four suspects while they were attempting to dispose of a suspected stolen motorcycle.
Police identified the alleged gang leader as Aminu Adamu, 48, of Galadanchi Quarters, Kazaure. Investigations led to the recovery of four stolen motorcycles, while four suspects have been charged before a competent court. One principal suspect and another accomplice remain at large.
The Acting Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Police Command, commended officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, vigilance and swift response to actionable intelligence, stressing that the state would remain hostile to all forms of criminality.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by providing timely, credible and actionable information capable of preventing crime and facilitating the arrest of offenders.
