The Lagos State Police Command has intervened to restore order after violent protesters blocked major roads in Ikeja in what may have triggered gross anarchy in the state capital.
The protest led to the closure of Awolowo Way and adjoining routes for several hours by the protesters.

This disclosure was made by SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer.
She said the protesters carried a coffin and instigated violence.

According to her, the blockade prevented emergency movement and disrupted businesses.
Several commuters reportedly experienced trauma and panic. Some motorists were said to have fainted in traffic.
Adebisi said police officers showed restraint throughout the operation.

She noted that public safety remained the priority of the Command.
At the House of Assembly, five lawmakers attempted dialogue. The protesters, however, rejected the offer. They allegedly barricaded the road under the instruction of their leader.

Police later dispersed them using teargas.
Two suspects were arrested at the scene.
Exhibits including a vehicle, generators, and a coffin were recovered. Investigation is ongoing at SCID Panti.
