The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has marked the 2026 International Women’s Day with a renewed commitment to strengthening gender mainstreaming within the Service.
The commemorative event was held on March 6 at the Service headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI A.S. Akinlabi, the event was held under the theme “Rights. Justice. Action: Strengthening Gender Mainstreaming in the Nigeria Immigration Service.”

According to the statement, the commemoration brought together participants from the Ministry of Interior, security agencies, the Immigration Officers’ Wives Association (IMMOWA), and development partners.
“The event brought together participants from the Ministry of Interior, security agencies, the Immigration Officers’ Wives Association (IMMOWA) and development partners of the Service,” the statement said.
It added that the gathering reflected a collective commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening the protection of the rights of women and girls.

The event also featured goodwill messages and expert presentations.
“There were goodwill messages from the Ministry of Interior, security agencies and development partners, while guest speakers from UN Women and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development delivered presentations,” the statement added.

According to the Service, the presentations focused on advancing gender equality, justice and inclusive participation within institutions.
