The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has declared that no military operation can succeed without robust logistics planning and well-trained personnel capable of sustaining troops on the battlefield.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of participants of the Logistics Staff Officers Course and the Junior Leadership Logistics Staff Officers Course at the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM), Lagos, on Friday, the Army Chief said logistics remains the backbone of military success and national security.
Shaibu said the changing nature of security threats requires logistics officers who are innovative, adaptable and professionally equipped to support operations in joint and multi-agency environments.
He noted that logistics goes beyond moving supplies, describing it as a strategic component that strengthens combat power, troop mobility, equipment maintenance, medical support and efficient resource management.
According to him, the Nigerian Army’s sustained offensives against terrorists, insurgents, kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements have continued to demonstrate the importance of effective logistics planning in maintaining operational momentum.
The COAS urged the graduating officers to put into practice the knowledge and leadership skills acquired during the course to improve logistics planning and operational support across formations and units.
He warned that poor logistics planning could undermine military operations.
”An Army that fails to plan its logistics has already failed in its mission,” he said.
Shaibu also charged the officers to uphold professionalism, accountability and innovation in the management of military resources, stressing that efficient logistics enhances troop welfare, boosts morale and sustains combat readiness.
He commended the Commandant and instructors of the College for producing highly skilled logistics officers and assured them of the Army Headquarters’ continued investment in military education, technology, infrastructure and logistics development.
Earlier, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management, Major General Adewale Adetoba, said the institution had updated its curriculum to address emerging security challenges and prepare officers for modern warfare and joint operations.
He expressed optimism that the graduates would make significant contributions to the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to protect Nigeria’s peace, security and territorial integrity.
