The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to international peace support operations as it joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
In a message marking the occasion, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, paid tribute to peacekeepers across the world for their courage, professionalism and sacrifices in the service of global peace and security.

The police chief also honoured the memory of peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving under the United Nations flag, describing their sacrifice as a lasting inspiration for efforts aimed at building a safer and more peaceful world.
According to the IGP, Nigeria has maintained a proud record of participation in international peacekeeping operations, with officers of the Nigeria Police Force serving with distinction in numerous United Nations, African Union and regional peace support missions.

He noted that Nigerian police personnel deployed to conflict-affected regions have consistently demonstrated professionalism, expertise and dedication, thereby strengthening Nigeria’s reputation as a responsible contributor to global peace and security.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s commemoration, “Invest in Peace,” Disu stressed the importance of sustained investment in peacebuilding initiatives, institutional capacity development, technology and international cooperation.

He observed that emerging security challenges such as terrorism, transnational organised crime, cyber-enabled offences, communal conflicts and violent extremism require innovative and collaborative responses from the international community.
The IGP further emphasised the need to provide peacekeepers with adequate training, modern technology and operational resources required to effectively tackle evolving security threats.

He also acknowledged the contributions of female peacekeepers and advocated increased participation and leadership opportunities for women in peace operations worldwide.
While appreciating the sacrifices of peacekeepers and their families, Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening its peacekeeping capacity and supporting initiatives that promote international peace, security and stability.

”The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to advancing professionalism, capacity development and global partnerships in support of peacekeeping operations and sustainable peace worldwide,” he stated.
The annual observance of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers honours the contributions of military, police and civilian personnel serving in peace missions across the globe while paying tribute to those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
