The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man and his teenage son for unlawful possession of a firearm along the Shagamu/Ogijo Road axis.
The suspects, identified as Joseph Kehinde, 38, and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, were apprehended by operatives of the Quick Response Squad.
In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the arrest followed a stop-and-search operation.
Babaseyi said, “Operatives… intercepted a tricycle conveying the younger suspect, and a search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a mask.”

He noted that the suspect could not give a satisfactory account of the items.
“The suspect, however, claimed that the firearm belonged to his father,” he added.
Following the disclosure, Babaseyi said operatives arrested the father.
“Both suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation,” he said.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance.
“He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal possession of firearms,” Babaseyi said.
