The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaian nationals allegedly held against their will in Sagamu after being lured to Nigeria with promises of Canadian and Spanish visas in a suspected international fraud scheme involving about ₦50.27 million.
The victims, comprising seven males and four females, were rescued by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following intelligence received on October 19, 2026.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the victims were allegedly deceived by a fellow Ghanaian national who promised to facilitate their travel abroad.
According to the Command, each victim reportedly paid GH₵40,000 before being brought to Nigeria, where they were allegedly held against their will.
The rescue operation followed the swift deployment of operatives to the suspected hideout in Sagamu after actionable intelligence was received.
The police said the rescued victims were receiving appropriate care and support, while detectives were intensifying efforts to identify, track down and arrest other persons connected with the alleged criminal network.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its prompt response and professionalism.

Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s determination to combat transnational crime and prevent criminal elements from exploiting the hopes of unsuspecting people seeking opportunities abroad.
He said the police would sustain efforts to ensure that all those involved in the alleged scheme were brought to justice.
The commissioner also urged members of the public to verify overseas travel arrangements and visa-processing offers before making payments, warning against falling victim to fraudulent promises of foreign travel.
The Command called on residents to report suspicious activities and provide credible information that could assist security operatives in identifying and dismantling criminal networks.
It reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration and decisive action against criminal activities, stressing that the protection of lives and property remained a priority.
