The Ogun State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its crackdown on criminal activities across the state, arresting six suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, suspected stolen property and logistics equipment linked to multiple crime networks operating in Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo.
The coordinated intelligence-led operations, executed by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and Ibafo Division, led to the arrest of Afisu Awesu ‘M’, Bala Aminu ‘M’, Moruf Sodiq ‘M’ alias “Okiki”, Mumuni Amodu ‘M’ alias “Stone”, Abayomi John ‘M’ alias “Ibafo”, and Mr Adeboye Ojesina ‘M’.
Police said the operations disrupted criminal activities involving illegal possession of firearms, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
Recovered exhibits include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.

In one of the operations, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit acting on credible and time-sensitive intelligence on May 30, 2026, arrested Moruf Sodiq ‘M’ alias “Okiki”, described as a key suspect linked to a coordinated generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and surrounding areas.
Police disclosed that the suspect subsequently led investigators to Mumuni Amodu ‘M’ alias “Stone”, identified as the alleged receiver of stolen items.
A search operation led to the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android mobile phones believed to have been recently stolen.
Investigators later arrested Abayomi John ‘M’ alias “Ibafo”, a motorcyclist accused of providing movement and logistics support to members of the syndicate during operations.
Authorities said investigations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network.
In a separate operation on June 12, 2026, operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit arrested Mr Adeboye Ojesina ‘M’, 58, over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and alleged intimidation of residents in Wasimi and neighbouring communities.
A search conducted by officers led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, one pump-action rifle, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.
According to police findings, the suspect initially denied ownership but later stated that he recovered the pistol within the area and fired a round to test it, while claiming that the pump-action rifle had been handed over to him by an unidentified person currently being traced by operatives.
Also, on June 13, 2026, operatives attached to Ibafo Division responded to a complaint of theft at a site in Igbeti Sote Village via Ibafo and intercepted Afisu Awesu ‘M’ while allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component alongside an accomplice who escaped.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had allegedly stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu ‘M’ of Kara, Ibafo.
Detectives subsequently arrested Bala Aminu as the alleged receiver of the stolen items.
Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the remaining network, adding that those arrested would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU, SWAT and Ibafo Division for their swift response, professionalism and operational efficiency.
CP Bode Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and sustained pressure on criminal elements, assuring residents of continued proactive security measures and rapid response to emerging threats across Ogun State.
