The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major operational breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on organised crime, dismantling a sophisticated armed robbery and vehicle theft syndicate in Kaduna State.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of 10 stolen vehicles of different makes and models.

Those arrested were identified as Abubakar Musa, Hassan Umar, and Joshua Raphael, who were apprehended on March 16, 2026, following intelligence-driven operations.
Investigations have revealed that the syndicate operated a structured vehicle theft network, targeting vehicles which were subsequently altered to conceal their identity before being redistributed.
A particularly troubling aspect of the case is the involvement of the principal suspect, Musa, a dismissed corporal of the Nigerian Army who allegedly impersonated a serving soldier to evade detection and facilitate criminal operations.
Security analysts say such impersonation underscores evolving tactics by criminal networks seeking to exploit public trust in uniformed services.
Recovered exhibits include Toyota Hilux trucks, Toyota Corolla cars, a Pontiac Vibe GT, a Honda vehicle, a Lexus car, and a Toyota RAV4 SUV, with several found without registration numbers, suggesting deliberate attempts to erase ownership trails.

The police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen vehicles linked to the group.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism, noting that the operation reflects the Force’s growing capacity for intelligence-led policing.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country.
