A coordinated crackdown on maritime crime has yielded a major breakthrough as operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission successfully rescued 14 abducted victims from sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.
The operation, driven by credible intelligence and sustained inter-agency collaboration, saw joint security teams intensify surveillance and execute targeted raids across identified flashpoints within the volatile maritime corridor, leading to the safe recovery of all victims without injury.
The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, who confirmed the development, said the victims are currently undergoing medical checks and debriefing before being reunited with their families.
Reacting to the success, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for what he described as a clear demonstration of effective intelligence-led policing and seamless inter-agency synergy.
He assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators behind the abduction, reiterating the commitment of security agencies to rid the nation’s waterways of criminal elements and ensure the safety of maritime activities.
