The Anambra State Police Command has explained that the ongoing impounding of vehicles with tinted glasses, including those whose owners possess tinted glass permits, is part of a security operation aimed at combating crime and verifying the authenticity of permits.
The command said the exercise also targets unregistered vehicles as well as vehicles with concealed, covered or defaced number plates.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, the enforcement exercise is intended to identify forged or fraudulently obtained tinted glass permits, ensure compliance with vehicle registration and number plate regulations, and prevent criminals from using such vehicles to evade identification.
The police said the operation was not designed to inconvenience law-abiding residents but had become necessary in view of prevailing security challenges and the increasing use of tinted vehicles by criminal elements to conceal their identities and perpetrate crimes.
The command appealed to residents of the state to remain patient and cooperate with security personnel, assuring them that the exercise is being carried out in the overall interest of public safety.
According to the police, the ongoing enforcement is aimed at safeguarding lives and property while strengthening security across Anambra State.
